Postponed in 2020, delayed in 2021, the 2022 North American Comhaltas Convention was held over four days (April 21-24). Over 300 attendees traveled from Ireland, England, Canada and from all across the US, including a large contingent from New York, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, New Mexico and New Jersey. Four energetic cilis featuring John Whelan, Pearl River (NY), Sourdough and Golden Gate Céilí bands kept the set dancers going all weekend.
There was a wide variety of workshops, including Céilí, set, sean ns, jive, line dancing, music, Irish language, recitation and storytelling.
A highlight of the weekend was the Saturday evening Banquet which mixed the out-of-town guests with the supportive local community. The entertainment was produced by Irish dance teacher Michael Dillon.
On Sunday, Mass with Irish Choir, Cr Radharc an Chnoic (from Mountain View) was celebrated, followed by brunch, a set dance workshop and a rousing farewell Céilí with music by the Golden Gate Céilí Band.

Valentine's Dance - February 16th is the perfect date for you to enjoy a great night of dancing and music to the hits of the Eagles, and to help support your local Cooley Keegan Comhaltas Ceoltir ireann branch as they prepare to host the 2020 North American Convention in San Francisco
The event takes place at St Thomas More Hall from 7:30pm with live music on the night being provided by the Jesse Brewster Trio, who are effectively the acoustic wing of the much loved Marin based band, the Illegals. Indeed most of the music will be from the enigmatic Eagles group, with songs like Take It Easy, Lyin Eyes, Peaceful Easy Feeling and many more, with a sprinkling of other rock and roll classics. It promises to be a fantastic night. There will be a no host bar on the night. Doors will open from 7:30pm so come early to enjoy the fun. It just might be the perfect place to have a wonderful night with friends.
The event is a fundraiser for Cooley Keegan CCE to help them run next years major North American Convention, which will welcome almost 400 people to the city for a weekend of music, song, dance and Irish language. Its an event that requires serious funding and this event hopes to provide opportunity for the wider community to support their efforts. The Branch are also hoping to raise funding from other sources. If you wish to support their efforts, please contact Josephine Brennan on email at chair@sfcooleykeegancce.org or josephine Brogan at josephinebrogan@yahoo.com.
So, save the date, Saturday February 16th, at St. Thomas More Hall, 50, St. Thomas More Way, San Francisco with doors opening at 7:30pm. The dancing continues until 11pm. Theres a no host bar also. All proceeds from the night go to Cooley Keegan Branch of CCE to bring the North American CCE Convention to San Francisco in April 2020.
