Local Traditional Bands

We are fortunate to have several good Traditional Bands here in San Francisco. Over the years most of them have played at ceilis that we have hosted.

Western Shore/Avalanche, Sourdough Ceílí Band, Golden Gate Ceílí Band and O'Loney Tunes - These are the bands that play for many of our céilís and gatherings. We set dance every Thursday night at the Plough & Stars Bar, Clement Street, San Francisco, to live music.

Fret and Fiddle

Emperor Norton Céilí Band

Crooked Road Céilí Band

The Gas MenSan Francisco-based Irish band led by mandolin player and composer Vincie Keehan. The band has been together since 1995 and they play jigs, reels, hornpipes, and ballads.

Caliban - Euro-Celtic. Regulars at Scruffy Murphy's.

Tipsy House - A fine trad band that plays for the dancing at the Plough and the Stars twice each month.

The Waybacks - It may be a stretch to list these fine musicians under Celtic, but their unique style flows from the headwaters of Irish music. They characterize their style as "acoustic mayhem." Regulars in Austin TX and at the Plough and Stars, San Francisco. Great guitar riffs, lyrics, and Blue Grass roots (no pun intended).
